Kingston, Jamaica
Annually, our Global Health team from Saint Ann’s Family Medicine travels to Jamaica, along side a team of triage nurses, a Physical Therapist, Respiratory Therapist, and support personnel.
We work to reauthor healthcare experiences with patients and create a sense of community with a focus on well-being and health.
We partner with communities to provide quality healthcare and provided referrals to primary care for long term management of illness.
We work to create sustainable wellness initiatives and foundational knowledge, through the teaching of vital education on chronic conditions and healthy lifestyle habits.
We provide opportunities to access government funded programs and linkage to life sustaining resources.
Curriculum Objectives:
Expand learners’ understanding of Global Health
Prepare learners to be able to lead and navigate safe, high quality service initiatives locally and abroad
Prepare learners to be able to lead/navigate service initiatives locally and abroad ethically
Foster a learners’ personal commitment to service
Develop insight into health and social inequity both locally, domestically, and internationally
Provide learners with an institutional certification that codifies their experience in care of the underserved locally, domestically, and internationally
An accredited family medicine residency program provides ideal preparation for short- and long-term global health work. Family physicians are specifically trained to provide the care that is most needed in the developing world—care for patients of all ages that is comprehensive, continuous, integrated, community oriented, and team based.
Chulucanas, Peru
Our Global Health team travels to Chulucanas, Peru annually, providing sustainable, primary care to children, adult at Centro Pastoral, which is a campus operated by the Diocese of Chulucanas. The campus has outpatient clinic rooms and pharmacy rooms, which is where our team provides medical care. Also, teams travel up into the mountains to provide care to remote mountain villages in need.
